On June 20, 1905, The Chaffee Real Estate Company of St. Louis, Missouri purchased 1,800 acres of land from a local farmer, John Witt of Sikeston, Missouri. Shortly therafter the Chaffee Real Estate Company transferred ownership of 150 acres to the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway for the purposes of building a large switching yard and began surveying the area for a town for the railroad employees.

Since the beginning, the railroad has been a big part of the community of Chaffee. The Burlington Northern Railroad still has a depot here. You can catch a glimpse of the railroad influence in the mural painted by local artist Aaron Horrell at Yoakum and Main streets.

Today Chaffee is 1.8 square miles with a population of 3044. We are located 13 miles south of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Many residents live and work in Chaffee, but it is an easy commute to and from Cape Girardeau and Sikeston, Missouri

On this site you'll find information regarding our attractions, services, organizations, schools and events. If you have any questions about our community, please click on the “Contacts” page and send us a question and we'll respond as soon as we can. Once again, thank you for visiting Chaffee, Missouri the "City with a Smile".
